Still water, so still that without the perspective of the shoreline there was that illusion that it was possible to fall into the sky.

Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
I can’t help but think of that verse when standing at this point on the lake on a day like this day.

Be peaceful, be quiet, be still.

We spent a honeymoon weekend at Mountain Lake Lodge on Woods Bay of Flathead Lake, just south of Bigfork…an entire 10 miles from home.

Mountain Lake Lodge has a main building with lobby, lakeside restaurant and downstairs a lakeside pub. There are 6 buildings scattered in a semi-circle around pool and hot tub. The small buildings, none more than 2 1/2 stories high and their arrangement allows for lake views from every room. All of the rooms are spacious, have fireplaces and ours also had an indoor hot tub. I have put visitors here including blog reader and dear friend, Sandy and her husband Jerry, this past summer.
It is a restful, pretty place in a beautiful spot. It was a wonderful place for us to start our life together.

Although skies were gray, our spirits were not!

We spent Saturday exploring and taking photos…

from the north end of the lake…

…to a spot that looks over the valley: Lone Pine State Park.

Vistas of valley and mountains and a room with a view.

This barn sits in one of those places that begs a photo again and again – the valley floor giving way to the Continental Divide.
Nearly all this week, the mountain tops have been shrouded in clouds, mist or squalls, but today, bits of sunshine poked through the overcast lighting the field and the golden larch.

But they are dusty and smoky. I believe all have their wheat in – September has been dry and warm and the combines were working furiously until about a week ago. In their place are tractors plowing. The smoke is from a fire south and a bit west of here.
