Local scenery

Late, yesterday afternoon, Karl and I took a run into Bigfork for a short walk and a few errands. There were information signs from the highway department…the stretch of highway from my road south to Bigfork and north to the next town of Creston is due to be chip sealed today (Wednesday) though Friday…expect long delays…AND A MESS. Karl, the Jeeper and I will leave that highway alone until they are done. The pantry and frig are thankfully full.

But while we were out…

A favorite barn and farm.

Bright, gold canola sets off another farm.

Looking north on the road home, most of the snow is gone from the mountains. All is green. The current forecast is for warm (upper 70’s to upper 80’s F) and dry…It can dry astonishingly fast so I took some time to breathe in the green of the local scenery.

These old barns

These old barns…I’m forever wanting to catch this group just right…me and every other photographer that passes by them! They are just west of MT Highway 35 south of Woody’s and north of the Creston curve. There is a stand of 5 pine trees just to the east of the barns.

Today, just these old barns.

A perfect first day

Barn in Lower Valley, south of Kalispell.

Photo taken on December 19, 2009…

Because, what do two just married people both with a passion for photography do the day after they get married??? – combine the joy of being together with the joy of doing something they love together. We spent the day – ok, part of the day – driving our favorite roads taking photos.

A couple pieces of wedding cake spent the night in the car. It was one of those fortunate “oops” – the temperature stayed about 35 so the cake was refrigerated as well in the car as in the room frig. At just that point where we were ready for coffee and a treat we remembered the cake and there it was, intact on the back seat. Coffee and wedding cake, eaten in the parking lot of the Justice Building – where we got our marriage license.

Perfect first day.

A favorite scene

This barn sits in one of those places that begs a photo again and again – the valley floor giving way to the Continental Divide.

Nearly all this week, the mountain tops have been shrouded in clouds, mist or squalls, but today, bits of sunshine poked through the overcast lighting the field and the golden larch.
