Thursday’s story

RV’s are cheaply constructed houses that roll down the road. Things shake lose as well as break like house things from normal wear and tear.

One of the things that “broke” this trip was the plastic lever that throws the dead bold on the “front” door. But you can’t buy only the plastic lever.

The entire front door lock assembly was awaiting our arrival here at Rose Valley RV Ranch. Steve decided to install today.

Karl has become accustomed to “Adventures with Steve” – they take off in the Jeep with a first stop at the local bakery for sustenance and then on to some wonderful venue for a run around and who knows what.

But this morning, things were delayed as the door assembly was tackled.

As many things RV do, this turned out to be less than an easy fix.

Patience is not going to be on any of our tombstones…

Even Bob kept an eye on the progress.

Oh, brother…might as well catch a nap.

Finally, the thing was finished. Karl and Steve went off in search of adventure and serious napping could be had.

And then it was evening. Another day done. Another desert sunset.

Thursday’s story.

Bob in the desert

It was 60 this afternoon… I had to work. Steve took Karl up to Pinos Altos to see what they could see and hopefully some of what they saw would be snow.

Bob and I stayed home. I took my computer outside, put Bob on his leash and we enjoyed a bit of sunshine.

There are a lot of birds in the Junipers. I stayed in the shade, but the sun was warm and that was Bob’s choice.

Later, Bob waited for Steve and Karl to return.

Bob in the desert.

Catchin’ the last rays

Bob spent the morning chasing the sun. This might be the last of it for our stay in Ft. Collins. A small weather disturbance is due this afternoon and evening. It is 44F at noon as I write this and supposed to stay warm overnight and into tomorrow with the worst of the “disturbance” hitting the mountains.

The current plan is an early afternoon departure tomorrow with Pueblo or Colorado City being the planned Thursday night stop.

Karl and Steve are out enjoying the last of the sun and gathering supplies for the remainder of our trip south.

**Karl and Steve have been exploring the Cache de Poudre River Valley/Gorge east of where we sit and Steve has begun posting photos on his Flickr….more this afternoon and evening when they return. Karl has been in the river (his feet) seemingly unmoved by cold of the icy water – in fact, he comes home in high spirits as in extremely invigorated!

Going south for snow

We left Montana with very little snow on the ground. We are about 600 miles south. It snowed most of yesterday, although it was the flurry type so maybe 1.5-2 inches of accumulation.

Karl is thrilled. We finally made him come in late afternoon after a walk around the lake in the morning and down the Poudre River Trail in the afternoon.

But it didn’t stop overnight – another 2-3 inches as of this morning and still snowing. So… roads are not snow covered, but they do report icy, slushy conditions and snow through the day. We’ll keep an eye on conditions as if it looks ok we’d like to get through Denver today.

But it might be another day in the snow.

Sittin’ pretty

Hee… Steve took this photo before we left Montana. Bob was not posed by us…he has been lounging on the day bed in various positions that resemble something between King Tut and Jaba the Hut. Steve caught this and added the caption.

All to say that we are staying put in Ft. Collins today. It is snowing and supposed to keep snowing. The roads are reputed to be icy. We are in a good spot. We’ll take a look again tomorrow.

We have plenty of food, water, a good place to get Karl out and about for a walk and a run, books, tv, cameras and computers. Along with Bob, we are sittin’ pretty!

Weekend musings from the front porch

Misty mornings giving way to mostly gray skies continue. Temperatures hover between 25 overnight to near 40 during the day. Yesterday after a crunchy walk/snowshoe around the mountain loop, I went to the front porch.

Snow melting off the roof provided a symphony in the form of drips and plops on the snow and rocks.

I started with Karl for company…

Bob joined the party.

And…

…finally Steve.

Bob and Karl attend a wedding

Of course Bob and Karl attended the wedding!

They both knew something was up all day – Mike, Steve’s best man had been around since Wednesday evening as had my folks. On Friday, my folks arrived early and we started food, drink, table and house preparations. I packed a bag – a suitcase has never been good news for Karl and Bob…

Bob was lying low on a fleece in the boys room and Karl on the rug in the sunroom.

Steve arrived with the cake, then Mike, then a few guests and soon the house was full. Bob stayed where he was on the fleece.

Shortly after my folks arrived, I turned as my step-Dad, Bill, was saying “get me a camera…someone GET ME A CAMERA!!!” I finally noticed why…

Karl was licking the icing off the corner of the cake. Sorry, no photos of him doing it. I agree, it would have been great, but I am also pleased to say that I did not hesitate and opted to save the cake versus capturing its destruction.

I think we have been at least once through all of the photos and there are none of Karl*. Aside from the cake incident, he slurped water during the vows…his water bowl is in the sunroom. Then he barked right after the Amen – great timing! During the festivities after he was pretty low key except that he kept an eye on anyone who had cake – he REALLY liked the cake! It was a spice cake – it WAS good.

Bob finally moved. Bob moved from the fleece to the top of the coat pile.

He found the softest coat.

Fortunately, the coat belonged to an animal lover.

Oh, Bob…

*We are just going through photos that we and various guests took. I’ll be posting them on a page of the blog. There will be a tab at the top: “Wedding” when they are up.

Flop house

It was a tough day for the boys…
