Just when I think I’ve seen your most stunning photos, along comes the next best one. It may take awhile to top this one – not that it’s a competition. I hope you didn’t have to wait too long in the cold for the moon to position itself perfectly. Wow!
Amazing Ann! I think you should put together a calendar with your beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing the beauty of the earth to those of us who don’t live in such wonderfulness.
This was taken about an hour after moonrise/sunset but still light in the sky.
For the photographers…
This is a double exposure. I like to have some of the moon “contour” vs just a white circle or blob and the only way to get that is to catch moonrise when the sky is still very light and underexpose a bit or do a double.
I do the double in Photoshop. I shoot in RAW and then open the photo twice, one at the exposure to get the foreground and one underexposed to get the moon. When I know I will probably want to do this, I shoot several photos at different exposures to get something in the middle that I can adjust without blowing out either the foreground or background.
When opened twice, I lay one over the other, add a layer mask and then remove whatever from the top layer.
Much easier and faster in Photoshop than in the darkroom :)!
Awesome picture!!! Looks like a postcard . . . not a real picture! You just keep getting better and better, Ann.
Picture Perfect!
And …Yes…Ann, just gets better and better!
Thanks for always sharing your gifts!
Absolutely beautiful, Ann, the colour of the sky is such a rich blue.
Thanks from me,too. Every morning as I drink my coffee, I enjoy your pictures and comments.
Now this picture is absolutely breath-taking!
Wow!
I tried to catch a photo of the same moon back lighting the few remaining leaves on our huge cottonwood, but my iPhone just wasn’t up to the task.
The search for the right digital SLR will resume after the holidays!
This photo is absolutely beautiful. I agree with the others, you are getting better and better. Would you like to give us all some lessons?
Thanks for sharing the photo!
Love the colors. Great shot.(moon is 1/9th of an inch off center…oh no. maybe not!)

Ann,
What an amazing photo! Is this your view from your home? If so, I am so jealous!
Aren’t we fortunate to be able to choose to live in Montana?
Time for some night-time pond hockey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Under a full moon and go for it.
Now I want to be 14 to 16 again!
Donna,
Not quite from the house – through the woods to the edge of the property :)!
gorgeous as usual! I loved the explanation of the photo, I appreciate it all the more.
