On the way

Dark clouds skittering over the mountains to the east, snow squalls over the mountains to the west, blue sky over the valley floor and a great old barn in a protected wetlands area made for a scenic stop yesterday. Two bird hunters were working the wetlands some distance away – later we saw they were working with a dog but the brush was high enough to hide the dog.

The wind was blowing off the lake from the southwest sending scent and sound away so Karl was oblivious as well and intent on his own exploration.

The larch are rapidly losing their needles in the brisk wind, rain and snow but still enought to show gold against the green on the mountainside.

We left the hunters and their dog to the wetlands and continued on our way.

  • Thanks for these pix Ann, always enjoyable. Are the trees in your area affected by the pine beetle that has killed so many trees in the Rockies of Colorado and the Black Hills of South Dakota? Just wondering. Have a dandy day!

  • Love the old barn. Thanks for the mosey along with you, enjoyable, as always.
    Gratefully,
    Gayle

  • I am a fan of old barns, and the one in your picture is a classic.

We have the Southern Pine beetle in NC and TN and they’ve done major damage.

  • That was a wonderful walk, I really enjoyed it. Here it’s been raining for the last three weeks and is forecast to continue the same for at least another week.

  • John, According to the man who did weed spraying for me last summer, there is pine beetle around – so far, not in my trees. There are some preventative measures and I plan to start them next Spring.
