Karl was inside when a small herd of white-tailed deer visited yesterday afternoon. They eat the mossy stuff on the downed branches in the yard and woods. If Karl is not out to keep them away, they come right to the house and I will look up from working to see…
I think these were last year’s fawns – still small and hanging together.
Mr. Buck getting a start on this year’s antlers. I’d love to find his shed! I know they shed early in the year and I have not yet found any in my walks in the woods…maybe this year.
Meanwhile, Mr. Karl studiously avoided looking at me AND outside at the deer. Once the deer are acknowledged, he must do something about them and I think he sometimes doesn’t feel like it so he comtemplates his toes instead.

FINE, FINE PICTURES
Outstanding pictures!!!
I love your pictures! How lucky to have caught them so close! What is amazing as well is that they survived this winter, as tough as it was.
My husband found a deer skull complete with its antlers, an 8 point, completely cleaned by animals and bugs. It is very neat! Hope you find a set!
Good Dog, Karl! He is just reading your mind and keeping perfectly still so you can get these fabulous shots.
I have to agree with Barb. Karl let them be so that you could get those fabulous pictures.
Spring is definitely in the air, despite the signals the weather is giving us. My daughters said that a herd of elk were in the back pasture yesterday. Of course, they had retreated to the woods by the time I arrived on scene with the camera.
I did see another herd in one of the local hayfields later that night, but didn’t stop to photograph. They were too far away for my cheesy little camera.
I’ll third the opinion on Karl vs the deer. Photographer’s Mate!
He also has MUCH more sense and restraint than any of my previous dogs, who would literally try to FLY out the window or door upon seeing squirrels, other dogs, and such. Open or closed, too… made no difference… except for the noise levels.
Thanks all.
Buckskins Rule, I’ve been watching for elk here also. Last year this time, I was headed back from Florida but my friend who was staying at my house saw and photographed elk and I saw the herd one time shortly after I arrived back in late April. They are way more skittish about people than the deer.
