Yesterday I started my work day at 6 a.m. and by 10 had half my “day” in. Bill was taking a day “off” after the push to get the electric service finished and he had not been off the property in several days. It seemed like time for a short outing combining some errands, shopping for the long weekend and lunch.
I took him to Gresko’s in Kalispell - an old-fashioned deli-bakery in a little old building with practically no parking on a fairly busy street. I often plan and hope to stop there for something and have to pass it up for lack of parking. This day we were early for lunch and late for breakfast so found a spot, even for the truck. Gresko’s has two specialty sandwiches at the moment - “Philly cheesesteak” and a Reuben panini…I ordered one of each and 2 Thomas Kemper root beers - in the bottle! Thomas Kemper is a Northwest brand I think - an old fashioned creamy tasting root beer. Bill was pleasantly surprised by everything and with not many people in the place started requesting samples of cheese and prosciutto. He was so entertaining - this according to the owner - that we DID get samples! The prosciutto was $25/lb but they had cut too much earlier and brought that out to us. Also some gruyere cheese - all yum! Full, we bought a box of deserts to go…
As we entered Bed Bath and Beyond to shop for some kitchen gadgets I suggested that Bill turn on the charm again and see if we could get more free stuff…he ran out of steam here and we paid for all - rats!
The rest of the shopping was a test of endurance - for me! Bill played my driver which is nice as I get dropped off and picked up at the door but inside - good grief!!!! - Apparently the combination of 4th of July week tourists, locals taking the week off and the fact that it is also the beginning of the month when most people have $$$ - every store was jam packed - not a situation where I am at my best. Additionally, even though the temps were in the low 70’s, it was uncharacteristically muggy - I managed not to kill anyone and we arrived home with enough food for the month I think - except for the 4 or 5 things I forgot. The bus frig and freezer have been pressed into service - the electric was completed just in time!
I required an ice cold Huckleberry beer before finishing my work day - then dinner and a movie and that was a day in the life for us.
This morning, the sun rose in creamsicle colors. Karl and I walked down the driveway and back to the sound of morning birds and crickets.

We begin another day in the life.
