There was a large garden with raised beds and a mini-orchard of 9 fruit trees enclosed by a 6 foot high deer fence…was… It was more work than was fun for me and the garden now lives at my neighbors. There are several posts about it under the category “Yard and Garden”…
The gist is my neighbors and I swapped - they dismantled the fencing and graded the leftover with their backhoe in return for the fencing and planter material. Before starting the grading, there was already a small pile of topsoil left by the previous owners. After the grading, the topsoil pile was a bit bigger.
I don’t know what to do with the topsoil - there is not enough to spread over some parts of the yard that need it. I decided that at the first opportunity I’ll just push it flat and spread it out right where it is. There is a bit of a track behind the pile from some of the logging work and it can fill that area.
Karl might take care of it for me..

The digging thing was a sore point in Florida - with Bill. And not just in the landscaping - anywhere. I was adamant that Karl only dug to bury a bone (unfortunately sometimes that was in the landscaping…) or to make a cool spot in the dirt when he was hot. I’m considering that I might have to “eat my words”…or “my dirt” as the case may be.
It was hard to tell with this dirt pile. Karl went at it so vigorously that it kind of looked like he was having fun. And not just once. He has rearranged his little cave - hidey hole - cool spot several times - always the dirt flying as he works on it with seeming enthusiasm.
But he does use it…

And it is a good spot from which to keep an eye on things…

Mr. Karl - King of the hill!
Bob likes his bit of dirt also - a good dirt bath is heaven on a sunny day!

Bob is “King of the hill” in his own way.

Well, I don’t think you have to worry about what to do with your topsoil. He is cute…both of them are cute.

Unless it’s a total eyesore, why don’t you just leave it for Karl? He obviously enjoys it! I looked out my front yard one day and there was Stella flailing away, digging her way to the other side of the earth - in the middle of the yard. Special. Walked around back and there was an identical hole in the middle of the back yard. It’s not like we don’t have nice wooded areas she could do her digging!
Got you beat, Ann, I turn 53 (!!!) tomorrow. Better than the alternative, but I can’t believe how old I’ll be! Where did all those years go? And so quickly!
Karl and Bob…My Stella and Trey-you - the Baroness and the King of the Side Table.

I agree, leave the dirt, it has a home and a purpose. Aren’t dogs great. I would not trade my three for anything in the world and I dread the day that they will leave me. I have never been so attached to anything in my life. Enjoy today, see you tomorrow.

I had to look at the first 2 pictures for a while before I figured out it was his behind. Looked like a small Mastodon at first.
Bob looks real happy in his dirt bath.

I think dogs are meant to dig. Lucky Karl! Never have understood why men (mine included) get so upset by it. Our last dog was a professional digger. Every day my husband would come home and fill all the holes she had made. On her last day with us, she dug more holes than he could ever fill in one night. It probably wasn’t very nice, but I was surely cheering her on!
