Montana or bust, Day 3

June 1, 2008

This afternoon thunder started rumbling here at my house so I looked at Bill’s weather knowing he meant to get north of Kansas City… No, his weather and the weather here are not related, the thunder here just made me look. At any rate, severe weather is forecast for tomorrow through the middle of the U.S. so I phoned him…. He was at a truck wash fighting discussing the wash and wax job on the bus - he was there for awhile. I had a chance to let him know about the weather and suggest finding a good spot for the night and maybe staying 2 nights to let the weather go through.

The short story is that he made it to his planned stop north of Kansas City by approximately 5:30 and he does plan to stay over a day…but the reason is because he doesn’t want to drive the newly washed and waxed bus on wet roads - as in splashing road dirt on the bus. Rain falling on the bus is ok. And he informed me that if he was turned upside down by inclement weather, he was in good company - he is in a resort rv park and apparently the neighboring motorhomes are high class - so la de da…all is well and he said that even I would like this place…

***I will NOT stay in a Walmart parking lot or a truck stop and prefer to pay for a nice rv park or campground. I am a snob…and also maintain that it is the fuel and not the campground cost that make the entire venture (rving) $$$$$! - and although I tend to leave early in the morning, I don’t drive late into the evening so like a spot that has some esthetic appeal for sitting out in the evening or with my morning coffee and that has nice places to walk with Karl. Bill is more frugal… - hence his comment that even “I” would like the place.

a new view

I bought some new chairs for the kitchen table. To call the table in the kitchen, a kitchen table is stretching things a bit. The table that I use in the kitchen and occasionnally eat off of is really a little side table made for holding a lamp in a hallway… But it is what I have and it fit in a corner of the kitchen and I have been hemming and hawing over what to do in the kitchen and not really having the budget to do much of anything.

I had this little table in the corner and one ladderback chair pulled to one end so I could sit there and eat. Most often, though, I take my plate to my desk in the sunroom, the front porch or to the living room in front of the tv or the fire. But, Bill is on the way and that changes things… I was looking at my chair selection and thinking of his size - 6′4″ and not exactly skinny… Carting meals out to the bus to eat seems a bit extreme so I bought 2 new chairs.

Chairs

I had seen these chairs before and thought about getting one for my entry area - I have a corner that it would be nice to sit and put on or take off shoes or boots. Saw them again a week or so ago and decided they would work. Sara had moved the kitchen table at an angle to the corner and I thought - perfect - those chairs would make a bit of a nook and they are a bit larger than a regular ladderback, but still the same style…

Well, things did not fit or look right as I originally thought to arrange them and so I ended up like this:

…and the thing is, I really like it…and I had breakfast AT THE TABLE! And I noticed that with the new arrangement, instead of looking at the corner, I have an entirely different view out the windows from both chairs and it is comfortable and serene and I really like it!

A small change and a new view.

The chairs are from Sturbridge Yankee. They came completely assembled (YEAH!), packed well in very large boxes, delivered to my door by UPS.
