Rainy day grumps

February 22, 2008

TV

The day continued rainy and stormy with a succession of thunderstorms passing through. My head remains clogged, throat sore, sneezing and coughing - yucky all around…good day to stay in bed or bundled up on the couch in front of the tv….EXCEPT that with the thunderstorms, the satellite kept losing signal…

Can you say “GRUMPY”???

Thick air

Mist

I walked out this morning into air that was thick, wet and drippy - kind of like my sinuses (sorry for that picture!). It started raining yesterday afternoon and was one squall after another until sometime in the night. This morning it was not actually raining but Karl and I still got wet just walking out in the thick air. Today is forecast to be the same with a few possibly severe thunderstorms thrown in the mix.

Bill went gallantly out in the mess to fetch me some cough drops…and I think get a break from my general crankiness. I noticed this morning that the truck is parked out of the carport. I haven’t had a chance to ask but I’m thinking it was left out to get a “wash”…

Lunar night

February 21, 2008

Lunar Eclipse As a lover of the night and all things lunar, I could hardly miss trying for some photos of last night’s lunar eclipse. Bill’s Nikon has a more powerful zoom lens than my Canon, but I know my Canon… I set both up on tripods plenty early to experiment with settings. Bill set the Nikon for me and he took the gorgeous full eclipse photo at the end of this post.

And while all of the event was spectacular and it was a beautiful night, it was the start of things, when the moon was low that was the most spectacular and exotic to me. The moon through the tree branches, the soft rainbow of color from the light refracted through the clouds - those were the fleeting moments of exquisite beauty for me.

I’ll be quiet now and let the photos speak.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1: 1

And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so.

God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.

God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness.

And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1: 14-17

Where is Houston ??? Houston is an RV friend of ours we were expecting for an overnight visit on his way from Arkansas to Florida. He phoned (yesterday) from about 20 miles away to let us know he was close.

Then he phoned again to ask should he turn down the narrow sand road his GPS said to turn left on??? Bill went to find him and guide him in… (…add “will go retrieve lost rvrs” to the Booker’s RV Park amenities…)

Discussion

A little discussion about the exact spot to park and the route out in the morning.

All was resolved quickly. Houston got set up and we let Karl and Buddy get reacquainted - they met in Texas at the get together we attended but were both a bit protective of their spots. In the open yard, all was well and Karl tried to get Buddy interested in a game of chase you, chase me. They both had a good run around. Buddy had a sore and inflamed paw so he went to the vet where the paw got cleaned up, he got medication and they gave him a healthy dose of painkiller. Downside was Buddy slept through dinner…

This morning though, both dogs were ready to go - the morning was cool and crisp after a glorious sunrise that Houston got to view out his windshield.

Dogs

Got to stop and smell the ??? - I know not the roses…no doubt whatever was the stinkiest thing over there in the leaves…

Howling

Buddy has a thing about trucks…he started the “beagle bay” at a passing truck, Karl joined in and they had a great howl!

Buddy

Just Buddy…making himself at home - too cute not to post!

Houston, Buddy and Tiger (the cat) rolled out soon after - great visit with OUR FRIEND HOUSTON!

a balmy morning

February 17, 2008

I finally made it to the front porch for my early morning musing-writing. It warmed up yesterday and today supposed to get to mid-70’s before a squall line comes through with a cold front behind.

Although I dislike the warm-muggy weather that precedes the cold fronts, it is like life…without a few bumps in the road, without a few valleys, without the storm clouds…we couldn’t fully appreciate smooth road, the mountain top, the sunny day.

So, I sit here on this balmy morning that I know will turn into a warm and humid morning and enjoy the uncomfortableness. Dirty gray clouds are scudding across the sky - very low and very thin - so thin that white clouds and blue sky are visible beyond. Occasionally the wind whips up and covers up the normal sounds of the morning birds, frogs and roosters crowing - yes, there are 3 or 4 roosters in the vicinity and they get up earlier than I do! After the noisy gust, it gets very quiet and still. Karl is laying on the lawn in front of the front porch - not sleeping - watching, listening, sniffing the air in the wind. It is Sunday morning so none of the go to work, go to school activity on the road.

Clouds

Just Clouds

Oh jeez - Sunday morning!!! MAJOR breakfast day! …oh, I cook breakfast every morning…the most important meal of the day, ya’ know. And since I work from home and the man is retired we have a leisurely breakfast every morning. No matter, something still special about Sunday morning breakfast - so time to get in the kitchen and get to it!

It is full light now anyway and magical changing of night to day - black, white and gray to full color - it’s done for the morning. And just like breakfast which happens every day, I never get tired of watching the change of light in the morning - a million, zillion nuances of light, color, clouds and sounds.

“This is the day which the Lord hath made. We will rejoice and be glad in it”. Psalms 118:24
