I took Karl for a morning walk next to the RV park and found a road that leads down to the water. Cloudy, cool and overcast but still beautiful.

Sea grass - what color up close!

Day 5 - Victoria, TX to Rockport, TX…big driving day of nearly 70 miles!
I spoke with Ron Wentz before leaving “Gateway to the Gulf” RV Park in Victoria. He and his wife, Delly, are the new owners of “Gateway” having arrived there in April. They both worked in Salt Lake City, UT prior…are avid skiers and scuba divers/instructors as well as medical “first responder” trained. They are working very hard and lots of plans for the park which had been neglected. To date, there are new concrete pads, updated utilities, clean up of grounds and buildings, including planting a number of trees and bushes between the park and the state highway to buffer noise and dust. They plan to fence several acres for a doggie park complete with dog wash facilities - this is Delly’s must have! - Ron and Delly have a beautiful Norwegian Elkhound. There is room to add more sites straight back from the existing and still leave some green space. The large building that houses a gigantic open space as well as office, laundry and baths will be redone - baths and laundry updated. The current office area is to be a 24 hour lounge area adjacent to laundry/baths with the office moved to an area that allows them to see arrivals. They plan to finish the large open space as a community gathering room. Wonderful plans for a great RV park close to many Gulf activities. I wanted to write some and I’ll post some reviews on the RV sites - previous reviews are not good and no longer accurate for this park.
So - 70 miles… through Texas prairie to the Gulf!

“drunken” utility poles!!! - Bill says a disaster waiting to happen - other electric anomalies he noticed but I don’t know enough to write about them…as in I can’t remember the terminology…

First glimpse of the Gulf…shrimp boat ?? - I think…reminded us of my brother telling us that people mistook his trawler for a “shrimp boat” as he has stabilizers that fold up when not in use and look somewhat like the poles on shrimp boats… but I do believe that the boat below is really a shrimp boat.

So, with 70 miles to go and into a coastal resort area with small roads in a 42 1/2 foot bus pulling a full sized pickup WITH a 4 wheeler on the truck bed, i.e. 67 feet that you can’t back up or turn on a dime… we were armed with 2 GPS systems (backup redundancy!) AND written instructions from DeennaLorraine - an ORS member who was already at Big D RV Resort…

…and we didn’t follow either GPS nor Deenna’s directions - BUT still managed to arrive at Big D RV Resort in one piece!

Next we played a bit of musical motorhomes as the group wanted the Magic Bus in the center of the action - Bill cooks!!! and the bus holds a fair amount of persons in comfort … so Houston moved his motorhome into the space we were assigned and we took his spot and fortunately we were there fairly early as later in the day several large motorhomes arrived and that would have been even more fun… 3 other members of the group arrived about hourly after - Deenna had fixed a huge and delicious pot of pasta and chicken, salad and garlic bread and all came to the bus and ate as they arrived. A good time had by all I believe and being the wild and crazy group that we are, everyone went “home” by 7:30 and when I walked Karl at 8 there were a LOT of dark RVs! Great to meet more of the ORS group!
Oh, Big D - WOW!!! - right on the Gulf (photos later), the absolute nicest and fun staff and residents of anywhere I’ve been!
