December - snow and cold in Montana, but here in North Florida the day started with coffee on the back porch in shorts and sweatshirt…a soft breeze rustled the trees and it felt like Spring!

We decided on a short trip in the 4wheeler near home - no destination in mind, just to see what we could see. The roads in the area that are not paved are sand. The 4 wd tracks are just narrower sand trails - getting narrower the further off road we went.
The variety of trees, vegetation and terrain in the area are beautiful - southeastern U.S. version of woods and forrest - pine trees, scrub oak, live oak, magnolia trees and small bushes bordered the trail. We saw deer as well as a lot of deer tracks. Bill had seen a Florida panther cross the road a few weeks ago and we hoped to see some cat tracks - hard to tell in the sand sometimes what was what.

A nearby lake is spring fed and the water was clear and clean. A recent downpour had carved gullies in the sand so we picked our way carefully around part of the lake.

Color is peaking here about now - this red tree caught my eye as we were stopped.

Mountains in Florida??? - maybe not mountains, but certainly rolling, hilly terrain - and big sky!

This stuff - I think a kind of moss - very pretty! From a distance it looks very soft, but it is brittle to the touch.

And just so you know that we laughed and enjoyed also - in keeping with local custom - what 4 wheelin’ trip is complete without beer????
